Wawasee Boys Tennis: Warriors Struggle At Duals
SYRACUSE — The Wawasee tennis team was back in action Saturday morning. The Warriors hosted their annual duals tournament and were left with a bad taste in their mouths after winning just one of three matches.
Wawasee’s lone win came against Jimtown in the final match of the day, a 3-2 decision. The Warriors dropped matches at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles but picked up wins on the other three courts. At No. 1 doubles it was Tim Conley and Dylan Staley getting the win. Conley and Staley 6-2, 4-6 and 10-4 in the tie-breaker. Evan Krueger picked up an easy win at No. 3 singles with a clean sweep, 6-0, 6-0 decision. Finally, Nate Perek picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.
Perek was the only Warrior to win a court in the other two matches on the day. Wawasee lost 4-1 to both Westview and Fairfield with Perek being the lone bright spot. Perek played No. 3 singles against Westview and earned a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 tie-breaker victory. He returned to the No. 3 court against Fairfield’s Aaron Streit and won 6-4, 6-3 in a match that lasted a very long time. Perek has lost just on match all season.
Wawasee (6-4) hosts Goshen on Tuesday.
