Halloween Thrill In Crosson Mill
There has been some goulish construction going on in Crosson Mill Park lately. Syracuse Park Department staff have been hard at work constructing the Thrill at Crosson Mill, which will be open 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Syracuse Park Superintendent Chad Jonsson explained the annual haunted house has been moved out of Celebration Hall at the Syracuse Community Center and built out at Crosson Mill Park. The thought was if it was moved to the park, which is located on SR 13, there would be more participation.
“Every year it’s a little different,” Jonsson said of the haunted house, noting new attractions are added and some old ones are kept. Jonsson said plans have been in the works long before construction started about a week ago.
Volunteers from the Wawasee Swim Team will be working in the Thrill at Crosson Mill. Jonsson said about 10 to 15 volunteers are needed each night to make the haunted house work.
Jonsson said he and park staff get an idea of what people like as they come out of the haunted house and use that as a guide for the next year.
“It’s not a bad haunted house,” Jonsson said, noting the Thrill in Crosson Mill is geared toward middle school aged children and up. Elementary aged children should be accompanied by an adult.
With the Thrill in Crosson Mill being outdoors, there are a few added challenges, notably the weather and security. “If it rains, people may not show up,” Jonsson said.
Admission is $5 per person with proceeds spilt between the swim team and the park department.
