Cronenworth Single Beats TinCaps
Bowling Green, Ky. – For the 11th time this season, the TinCaps suffered a walk-off loss, falling 6-5 to the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays) in 11 innings at Bowling Green Ballpark.
Hot Rods shortstop Jake Cronenworth hit a one-out single to right field off Elvin Liriano (L, 2-3) that scored Peter Maris from second base to end the game. Liriano threw a season-high 66 pitches over a season-long matching 3 2/3 innings.
Fort Wayne (26-43, 62-77) leads all 190 Minor League and Major League teams with 31 one-run losses on the season. Meanwhile, the TinCaps are tied with the West Michigan Whitecaps and Peoria Chiefs for the most extra-inning losses in the Midwest League this year with 10.
Third baseman Carlos Belen drove in all five TinCaps runs. His two-out RBI single in the first made it 1-0. Then in the seventh, with Fort Wayne trailing, 3-1, Belen bashed a grand slam to left-center field.
Bowling Green (46-23, 83-55), however, tied the game with two outs in the home seventh.
Elias Torres (W, 1-1) pitched a scoreless 10th and 11th.
The TinCaps, who are out of playoff contention, will end their season on Monday against the Hot Rods, who set a franchise record for wins in a season with 83.
