WARSAW —The Warsaw Community Public Library has hired a new Adult Programs Administrator.

Amanda McFarland is a Bremen native that graduated from Bethel College in 2008 with a degree in English. She found herself working as a journalist for 10 years prior to her new position.

While doing Shopping Guide News coverage in Rochester for The Papers, Inc., McFarland would cover their library events. She credits the event coverage for catching her interest of the possibility of working for a library.

“I would think, ‘Oh man, that would be such a cool job.’”

As the Adult Programs Administrator, McFarland is now responsible for bringing in speakers and events, as well as just working the library’s reference desk and circulating event fliers. She says that right now she’s still trying to learn everything her job entails, but she is certainly looking forward to some upcoming events.

“Starting next month, I will begin presenting regular programs at area senior centers and residential facilities. I am looking very forward to that!”

Coming in October is a Winston Churchill presenter that dresses up as Churchill himself. McFarland’s position also oversees an annual photography contest, something she thinks she’ll have fun doing. Other events planned include knitting and crocheting clubs, as well as hopefully bringing back a genealogy club.

She’s happy to have her journalism background, as it makes connecting with people and coordinating events easier.

In regards to events coming later this fall and into next year, McFarland says, “Keep your eyes open! We’ll have a lot coming in, so watch for different programs.”
