Former Girlfriend Of Steven Tyler Speaks At Grace College
WINONA LAKE — Julia Holcomb spoke at chapel at Grace College on Wednesday, Sept. 21, about her abortion and former relationship with Steven Tyler, lead singer of Aerosmith.
Holcomb opened by saying, “I’m here to be silent no more about the worst sin I committed in my life.”
She explained when she was 15, she went with a friend to an Aerosmith concert. The friend had backstage passes so the girls were able to meet Steven Tyler. Holcomb ended up going home with Tyler that evening.
One thing led to another, Holcomb stayed the summer with Tyler in Boston. Tyler then asked for Holcomb to live with him permanently.
“Look you’re too young, you can’t get married,” said Tyler. He suggested he become Holcomb’s legal guardian so she could live with him without him having to worry about getting in trouble for bringing a minor over the state line. Holcomb’s mother signed custody over to Tyler.
Holcomb explained it was a confusing relationship with Tyler because she was like his child, but he was also her lover.
Holcomb dropped out of school and moved in with Tyler. She joined his band Aerosmith as they were on tour.
“I didn’t go to school, I went to concerts.”
Eventually, Tyler decided he wanted to have a baby with Holcomb and insisted she stop taking birth control. “We became open to life in our relationship,” said Holcomb.
Shortly after Holcomb went off birth control, she became pregnant. Even though he had been excited about the possibility a few months prior, Tyler did not seem thrilled now that she was actually pregnant. He told her not to go the doctor because he didn’t want them asking questions about who the father was.
A few months later Tyler told her they needed to get married. When Holcomb asked why he said, “My lawyer said we had to.” His lawyer was concerned Tyler could get into trouble for impregnating a girl whom he had custody of.
She was a several months pregnant when Tyler left her for a few weeks for a concert. Holcomb awoke to their apartment on fire. She was unable to exit the apartment because the front door lock was jammed and the other exit was filled with flames. A fire fighter pulled her out of the fire after she had passed out trying to get out of the building.
Tyler was there when she woke up in the hospital. The day Holcomb was to be discharged from the hospital, Tyler said, “You’re going to have an abortion.”
She stated they argued for a long time about the abortion, but finally Tyler said, “You can have the abortion, or you can get out.” Holcomb then agreed to having an abortion.
“With all my heart, I regret my abortion,” said Holcomb.
Within a year of the abortion, Tyler and Holcomb broke up. Holcomb decided to go home and repair her relationship with her mother. After she returned home, Holcomb began to go to church. She attributes her relationship with Christ to what helped pull her life back together.
Holcomb got her GED, went to college, married and now has seven children.
Holcomb is a speaker for “Silent No More” and has written the book “The Light of the World” published on LifeSite News.
