Torch Relay Route For Sept. 29
WARSAW — The Bicentennial Torch Relay will be starting at 10 a.m. at the Warsaw Community High School football field on Thursday, Sept. 29. Torch bearer Barb Martz will take it one lap around the track before handing it off to Jeff Shriver for Scott Bibler who will be carrying it to the entrance of the school drive.
Rita Price-Simpson will then take it by antique car to the train track on Buffalo Street around 10:20 a.m. Price-Simpson will then pass the torch to Marlin Carr who will carry it from the track to Center Street before passing it to Don Reinholt to carry to Indiana Street where the route will turn left.
Around 10:30 a.m. Scott McClintock will take it on Indiana Street, just before the Old Jail Museum, and carry it to Central Park. Here the American Legion Honor Guard will carry the torch in Robert Lichtenwalter’s honor the rest of the way to Central Park celebration.
Leaving the park at 10:45 a.m., Mary Louise Miller will drive it down SR 15 to Tecomet. Here Ken Locke will be driving it by tractor to the flashing light in Leesburg at the intersection of Van Buren Street, arriving around 10:55 a.m.
The route turns right with Willis Alt carrying the torch east on Van Buren to Harrison Street.
Sherri Milton will take the torch from there, driving east on Van Buren to Old SR 15, south on Old SR 15 to Armstrong Road, then east on Armstrong Road to Leesburg Elementary. Milton should arrive at the elementary school around 11:05 a.m.
Camille Kerlin takes the torch east from Armstrong road to the Oswego Old Pound Store where it is passed to Jack Warren who is carrying in honor of Layne Warren. They will take the torch to SR 13, passing it off at the subdivision entrance before turning on to SR 13.
Linda Cochran will carry it in a swan paddle boat pulled by a truck on SR 13 from CR 500N to Washington Street, North Webster where Mike Kissinger will continue it to Epworth Forest Road on foot around 11:20 a.m.
Lisa Strombeck will take over at Epworth Forest Road, leaving around 11:37 a.m. and driving it to Bart’s Water Sports on CR 800N in an antique car.
Don Miller will drive the torch from CR 800N to Wawasee Middle School on CR 1000N where he will be passing it to Carolyn Baker and Cathy Lemberg to carry to the Main Channel Marina at 1301 S. Huntington Street, Syracuse.
Larry Martindale will take it from the Marina to the fire station on Henry Street, arriving around 12:05 p.m.
The last half mile will be on foot, with Scott Pelletier’s family carrying it from the fire station north to Main Street and Ron Baumgartner will run with the torch for the last distance from Main Street to Lakeside Park.
The relay will end roughly around 12:30 p.m. at Lakeside Park in Syracuse.
