Artists Gather for “Art”-ober Event
WARSAW — Artists of all varieties took to the courthouse square to showcase their abilities at October’s First Friday event.
Catherine Schmidt was one of the artists selling her work along Buffalo Street. Schmidt started Bungees with a Cause after her father was struck with a case of E. Coli and her brother was diagnosed with cancer. Proceeds from selling her bungee style bracelets go towards helping with their medical bills. Schmidt can also be found at the local Farmers Market selling her Bungees with a Cause bracelets.
Also showcasing her work was Tammie S. Davis, a local painter. After her husband died, Davis began painting to make a living from selling her work and teaching art classes. Outside of her for-sale paintings, Davis has also done two murals for the Warsaw Veterans of Foreign Wars building. Davis can be found on Facebook for more information regarding her art pieces or classes.
A crowd gathered as Marc Eckel put on a Splat Experience, a Christian performance, for First Friday guests. Eckel is a local artist who owns a gallery at the corner of Lake Street and Center Street. The Splat Experience showcases Eckel’s ability to get messy and paint with his hands. Within 10 minutes Eckel painted his popular piece “No Greater Love.” The piece will be given away. To enter the give away please go to his gallery at 123 W. Center St., Warsaw. For more information on the Splat Experience visit his website.
Among other vendors present at the Friday night event was Kate’s Kart presented by local Brownie Troop 00464. The troop had a table of books set up where they were accepting donations in order to add books to their Kart. The girls take the cart of books to local hospitals and distribute the books to kids.
