Michael Signs To Be Unveiled
A public unveiling of two road signs honoring congressional Medal of Honor recipient and Milford resident Harry J. Michael will be part of a Veterans Day program at Milford School Nov. 12.
Members of the community are invited to attend the 9 a.m. ceremony that plans to honor current and former members of the U.S. military. As part of the morning’s schedule Second Lt. Michael, a veteran of WWII, will receive special attention from State Rep. Rebecca Kubacki.
Michael was killed in action on March 13, 1945, while serving in Germany. His death occurred as he led the 80th Blue Ridge Infantry Division platoon in an assault that resulted in the capture of more than 70 Germans and the liberation of two American prisoners.
Milford resident and Indiana State Trooper Kyle Dukes first approached Kubacki last winter with the desire to honor Michael. Two signs recounting his bravery were designed and constructed, and the Milford Town Council requested permission from the state this spring to have the signs placed at the north and south ends of town on SR 15. That permission is still pending.
The program will take place in the Milford School gymnasium at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12.
