Warsaw-Wawasee Basketball Moved; Tiger Notes
WARSAW – The annual renewal of the Kosciusko County girls basketball rivalry between Warsaw and Wawasee will be moving out of the county for the first time ever.
The Warsaw Community High School Athletic Department is announcing that the game scheduled as a Warsaw home game on Saturday, Dec. 17, will now be played in Knightstown at the famed “Hickory Gym”. The game will be varsity-only, and will tip off at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 each, with 300 tickets being allotted to each school. Proceeds from ticket sales come back to Warsaw.
The JV game will be played at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, at Warsaw.
The gym in Knightstown was made popular in the movie “Hoosiers,” which was released in movie theaters 30 years ago this week. It was the home gym for the mythical Hickory Huskers, who are based loosely off the 1954 Indiana state basketball champs from Milan.
The movie starred Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey and Dennis Hopper. It also featured soon-to-be Warsaw dentist Steve Hollar.
HOF Tournament Pre-sale
The Warsaw Community Schools’ athletic department is preselling tickets for the Boys’ Hall of Fame Basketball Tournament at Chrysler Fieldhouse in New Castle on Friday, Dec. 30. Tickets are $10 each and are good for all four games of the tournament.
Tickets are available at all Warsaw home games and in the athletic office during school hours.
The athletic department requests guests purchase tickets in advance since they purchased 1,000 tickets as part of their agreement to be in the tournament.
