Jill Abbott
Jill A. Abbott, 55, Columbia City, passed away at 1:04 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born June 16, 1961, in Columbia City, she was the daughter of Harold E. and Pearline (Johnson) Alexander.
She grew up south of Columbia City and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1979. Jill had worked as a waitress and cook at various places including Penguin Point, Whitley County Memorial Hospital, Miller’s Merry Manor, Renaissance Village, S and L Truck Stop and Humane Society of Whitley County.
On April 10, 1999, she married John Abbott. Jill loved being with her family and friends, and playing Old Maid with her granddaughters. She enjoyed reading, tending to her vegetables, rooting on the Chicago Cubs, Bears and I.U. basketball. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR and going to dirt track races. Even though she had an ornery personality that enjoyed joking around, she was very kind-hearted and loving and could never turn down helping an animal.
Survivors include her husband: John Abbott; sons: Greg Bender, Fort Wayne; and John (Sara) Abbott Jr., Columbia City; daughter: Amanda (Wayne) Brown, Columbia City; three granddaughters: Ava; Savannah; and Annabelle; sisters: Kathy (John) Orr, Columbia City; and Donna (Walter) Maley; and brothers: Dave Alexander, Columbia City. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother: Dennis Rex Alexander.
Visitation is 2-6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, Columbia City, with her funeral services starting at 7 p.m.
