Robert Louis Elkins — UPDATED
Robert Louis Elkins, 82, Columbia City, passed away at 11:59 a.m. Sunday Nov. 27, 2016 at his residence.
Born Nov. 30, 1933 in South Whitley he was the son of Thomas and Violet (Holler) Elkins.
Robert grew up in South Whitley and graduated from South Whitley High School with the Class of 1952, before moving to Columbia City in 1966. On Oct. 3, 1954 Robert married Marilyn Sue Fritz at Oak Grove Church of God, Columbia City.
Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. He enjoyed camping, fishing, square dance calling, traveling across the country, and watching the Cincinnati Reds and his grandsons playing baseball.
Robert worked for Dana Weatherhead as a machine operator for 30 years before retiring Jan. 1, 1993 and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #1906, Columbia City.
Survivors include his sons: Dennis (Debora) Elkins and Stephen (Jill) Elkins, both of Columbia City; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Stayer, Columbia City.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Violet Elkins; wife, Marilyn Sue Elkins; son, Kenneth Eugene Elkins; brother, Max Elkins; and sister, Evelyn Brickley.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
Funeral services for Robert will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 at the funeral home, with calling one hour prior.
Burial will follow in Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery, Columbia City.
Memorial contributions in memory of Robert may be made to the American Heart Association.
