NLC Swimming: Raiders In Place For Another Title Run
MIDDLEBURY – Not surprisingly, Northridge is primed to take another Northern Lakes Conference team title after its showing at Thursday NLC Championship preliminaries.
The Raiders have at least two swimmers in every championship flight as well as the middle lane of all three relays for Saturday’s championship round. The Raiders have the top time in seven of the eight individual events, only Concord’s Olivia Trout in the breaststroke is the non-Middlebury swimmer to carry the lead into the finals.
Northridge, the defending champion, finished the conference round robin unscathed at 7-0, followed by Concord at 6-1 and Warsaw at 5-2 at the top of the triangle. The Raiders have 23 of the possible 24 individual spots taken for a championship swim. The Minutemen have 20 of the 24 spots in championship swims plus its three relays.
Katie Hughes (200, 500), Sydnee Emerson (IM, butterfly) and Lauren Miller (50, backstroke) are tops in two events each, Kenzie Weber the lead in the 100.
All eight NLC teams were able to place its three relays in the finals in avoiding disqualification in the prelims.
Warsaw has Brenna Morgan in place of the 50 and 100 freestyles, looking to claim a four-peat of championships in both events. Delaney Wihebrink in the finals of the individual medley and backstroke, Olivia Herman in the 50, Taylor Gunter in the butterfly, Lauren Kuhl in the 500 and Laurel Moeller in the breaststroke.
Wawasee has both Paige Miller and Shelby Adams in contention for two championships, Miller in the 200 and 500 freestyles and Adams in the IM and the breaststroke. Ella Park is alive in the 500 and Ebba Bjurman in the backstroke.
NorthWood’s Kate Jarvis is swimming for a title in both the 100 and 200 freestyles.
Diving preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Northridge, with the finals taking place with the swimming finals which begin at 1 p.m.
