NorthWood Basketball: Miranda Leads Rout Of Raiders
MIDDLEBURY – The NorthWood boys basketball team continued the best start in program history Friday night.
Vinny Miranda made absolute sure of that for the Panthers.
The star guard poured in 32 points as the Class 3-A No. 1 Panthers drilled host Northridge 74-51 in a Northern Lakes Conference game.
Miranda, who entered play Friday night averaging 20.4 points-per-outing, drained 11-17 shots from the field. The senior also drained 9-11 from the free throw line.
NorthWood improved to 11-0 on the season and moved to 3-0 in league action.
The Panthers have now won 24 in a row versus county foes with their last loss coming to the Raiders three years ago.
There was to be no upset Friday night.
NorthWood led 17-9 after the opening quarter and was up 35-20 by halftime. Miranda was sensational in the opening half with 20 points to tie the entire Northridge team.
The Panthers then made it a rout by outscoring the Raiders 22-10 in the third period.
Caleb Lung netted 10 points and Luke Zurcher had eight for the Panthers. Caleb Glick chipped in with seven points.
De’Andre Smart pulled down eight rebounds for NorthWood.
The Panthers shot 27-46 from the field in the rout and went 15-19 from the line.
Luke Morrison scored 21 points and Nick Yoder finished with 17 to pace the Raiders. Northridge shot just 14-38 from the field, but were 21-30 from the line.
NorthWood won the junior varsity game 44-40. Luke Holland led the Panthers with 12 points.
NorthWood faces Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown. Northridge plays at Penn Tuesday night.
