Whitko Baseball: ‘Cats To Return To Parkview
FORT WAYNE —The Whitko High School baseball team will return to play a regular season game at one of the Midwest’s premiere parks, Parkview Field. The Wildcats will take part in this year’s Parkview Sports Medicine High School Baseball Series by playing Columbia City on Tuesday, April 25. This will be the third time the Wildcats have participated in the series (2014, 2015).
Below is the official release from the TinCaps and Parkview Field as well as the full series schedule.
“For the fourth consecutive year, Parkview Field will host the Parkview Sports Medicine High School Baseball Series this spring. Over the course of six doubleheaders while the TinCaps are on the road in April and May, 24 different schools from Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio will have the opportunity to showcase their talents at Minor League Baseball’s top-rated ballpark.
“Parkview Sports Medicine is once again excited to partner with the TinCaps to host our High School Baseball Series,” said Tommy Schoegler, Executive Director of Parkview Sports Medicine. “We’re the exclusive medical provider for 21 area high schools, but more importantly we’re part of the local sports community. For that reason, we’re happy to provide these players, coaches, and fans the opportunity to play at Parkview Field.”
Because Parkview Sports Medicine is underwriting costs, the schools can play at Parkview Field at no charge. In fact, these games will actually serve as fundraisers for the participating schools. For every $5 ticket sold, $4 goes to the schools ($1 will go to the Parkview Field Ballpark Maintenance and Improvement Fund).
“An event like this is exactly what Parkview Field was made for,” said TinCaps President Mike Nutter. “Our ballpark is for more than just the TinCaps. It’s for the community. We’re thrilled to see how these high school games have become a staple of the Fort Wayne sports calendar thanks to Parkview Sports Medicine.”
As in the past, all 24 games in the Parkview Sports Medicine High School Baseball Series will be broadcast live on both TV (Comcast Network 81) and radio (ESPN Radio 106.7-FM).
Just like at a TinCaps game, there will be giveaways, entertainment, and concessions for fans. Additionally, the high school players will have their headshots featured on Parkview Field’s big video board when up to bat.
Of the 24 schools competing in the 2017 Parkview Sports Medicine High School Baseball Series, two are participating for the first time (South Adams and Lakewood Park Christian). The doubleheaders will be played April 24-25 and May 2-5, with the first games beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the nightcaps set for 7 p.m. The complete 2017 Parkview Sports Medicine High School Baseball Series schedule can be found below and online at TinCaps.com.”
