Wawasee Sports Wrap: Feb. 21
Gymnastics
The Wawasee gymnastics team hosted Plymouth Tuesday night in the final regular season meet before the sectional. The Warriors posted a 105.875 to topple Plymouth’s 90.950.
Jada Parzygnot led the way for Wawasee as she had an all-around score of 35.93. That was just good enough to beat out teammate Reagan Atwood who posted a 35.63. Alyssa Minnix grabbed third for Wawasee with a 34.08 while Drey Wegener earned fourth with her 33.50. Plymouth’s top all-around score came from Kyla Heckaman, who earned a 33.20.
Parzygnot took first on vault (8.70) and bars (8.45) while Atwood had the top score on floor (9.58) and beam (9.58). Minnix, meanwhile, tied for second on vault with Atwood and Haleigh Smarr and was third on bars (7.83) and beam (8.90). Wegener had a third place effort on floor with an 8.85.
Plymouth’s top finish of the night was Heckaman’s 8.75 on beam, earning her fourth.
Wawasee (11-2) will compete Saturday at the Lakeland Sectional. Competition starts at 11 a.m.
Boys Basketball
The Wawasee boys basketball team hosted Eastside for the final home game of the regular season Tuesday night and were faced with yet another close defeat. Wawasee fell 51-46 at the hands of the Blazers for their eighth-straight loss.
Jairus Boyer led Wawasee with 10 points, eight of which came in the first quarter. Cam Schlabach and Aaron Evans each added eight for the Warriors while Bennett Hoffert and Trevon Coleman tallied six apiece.
Jordan Yoder led Eastside with 17 points.
Wawasee (5-16) plays at Tippecanoe Valley Friday night in the regular season finale and will also play the Vikings in the opening round of next week’s sectional tournament at Wawasee High Schoo. That game will be played at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Sectional tickets will go on sale Thursday morning at 8 a.m. in the Wawasee Athletic Department.
Wawasee’s JV won 62-44 to move its record to 17-4 on the season.
