The YMCA To Offer Community Good Friday Breakfast
WARSAW — On the morning of April 14, the YMCA will host its second annual Good Friday Breakfast featuring speaker Eric McElvenny and a hot breakfast served by Mad Anthony’s. Open to everyone, this is a community event hosted at Christ’s Covenant Church at 2090 E Pierceton Road in Winona Lake. Tickets will be on sale until April 7.
Eric McElvenny, the featured speaker, is an endurance athlete living in San Diego, California. He earned a mechanical engineering degree from the United States Naval Academy while preparing for his service as a Marine Corps Infantry Officer. Eric deployed three times as a Marine and on his final tour, an incredible experience in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, was wounded after stepping on an IED. Eric suffered the amputation of his right leg below the knee, a life-changing opportunity that began his next journey. Faced with a physical challenge and an uncertain future, Eric made a promise to himself to run an Ironman Triathlon. On his journey from the hospital bed in southern California to the finish line in Kona Hawaii, he realized that the challenge and adversity he was up against and the techniques he used to reach the finish line could be used against the challenges we all entertain. When not training, racing and delivering inspiration, Eric can be found with his wife, Rachel, and three children. His message will begin at 8:15 a.m.
Doors will open at 7 a.m. for a time of conversation and fellowship, with breakfast served at 7:30 a.m. The event will conclude by 9 a.m. If you’re interested in purchasing individual tickets or purchasing tickets for a whole table, please visit the Welcome Center or contact Matt Goebel at (574) 269-9622 x235.
The YMCA’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Christian Emphasis Director, Matt Goebel says, “The Kosciusko Community YMCA is bringing the Good Friday Breakfast to the community as an outreach event to focus on the significance of the death of Jesus Christ. Please join us for an inspirational message, food and community fellowship. “
