WCS Announces Zimmer Biomet Partnership Grant
WARSAW — Warsaw Community Schools is proud to announce the continued partnership of Zimmer Biomet through a recent grant award. The grant, which totals $50,000, will be utilized to further STEM and MakerSpace initiatives at Warsaw Community School.
Warsaw Schools have enjoyed a long-standing partnership with Zimmer Biomet, particularly in regards of furthering STEM curriculum for students of all ages. Through continued brainstorming for new, mutually beneficial partnership opportunities, Warsaw Schools, with the help of WCS strategic planning, identified areas of need to further student innovation and learning. This included continuing to expand upon the district-wide elementary robotics program as well as furthering efforts to create and supply MakerSpaces throughout Warsaw Schools.
During the 2016-2017 school year, the Zimmer Biomet grant assisted in hosting the WCS Elementary Robotics Showcase, an event that allows students from all WCS elementary schools to demonstrate their skills in engineering and robotics for parents and community members. Students were able to show guests robotic “sumo wrestling” as well as robotic maze navigation during the event.
In addition to furthering robotics, grant dollars also assisted in continuing MakerSpace research at WCS.
“We are very excited to continue our partnership with Zimmer Biomet as part of our strategic planning process,” stated WCS Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert. “The money received from Zimmer Biomet will be used strategically to incorporate and develop STEM educational programs in all of our schools. Some of the topics will include system-wide robotic competitions and the development of MakerSpaces. We are so thankful for Zimmer Biomet investing in our local, public schools and their continued commitment to our local community.”
