Margaret Butts Celebrates 105th Birthday
WINONA LAKE — Margaret Butts, a 17-year resident of Grace Village Retirement Community, is celebrating her 105th birthday with family and friends this week.
Born on April 22, 1912 in Clunette, Indiana, Margaret’s precious life began just one week after the unsinkable Titanic began its journey to the bottom of the ocean.
She married the late Lawrence Butts and gave birth to two sons Gene Butts and Don Butts. Along with raising her sons, Margaret helped her husband on their farm and also worked at the courthouse as a secretary.
Some of the adventures of life that Margaret enjoyed include sewing, reading, gardening, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Most of all, she was an avid basketball fan!.She didn’t miss a game when her sons played. She and her husband would even travel to different states when their boys played basketball in college. On June 30, 2012, Margaret was inducted into the Beaver Dam Fan Hall of Fame for being a basketball fan for 75 years. The award also noted that she had once received a technical foul for “assisting the referee!”
Margaret has also been a faithful Cubs fan for many years. A brick from Wrigley Field that she received on her 95th birthday sits proudly displayed on her window sill.
She now enjoys her naps and having chocolate ice cream every day.
Margaret’s birthday will be celebrated on April 21 during the lunch hour in the Family Life Center located in Grace Village’s beautiful Assisted Living facility.
