Warsaw Sports Wrap: April 24
Softball
The scoreboard at the Warsaw softball field got some workout Monday night.
Visiting NorthWood outscored the host Tigers 13-10 for a Northern Lakes Conference win.
The Panthers scored five runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth frame to take a 12-3 lead. Warsaw scored three times in the fourth, once in the sixth and three more in the seventh to battle back.
Warsaw outhit NorthWood 17-14, but the hosts were hurt by six errors in the loss.
Abby Glass had three hits, including a home run, to lead Warsaw. She also drove in four runs for the Tigers.
Sawyer Bradley had three hits, including a double, and two RBI. Morgan Ashtari had three hits and two RBI and Courtney Chookie and Katie Anderson two hits each.
Chookie went the entire distance in the circle, allowing eight earned runs.
Summer Stillson had three hits and scored four runs to lead NorthWood. Alexis Klotz had two hits for the winners.
Hannah Stickley had two hits and four RBI and notched the pitching win for the Panthers.
Warsaw drops to 4-5 overall and goes to 2-2 in the NLC. NorthWood improves to 3-6 overall and is 1-3 in league play.
Warsaw hosts Northridge and NorthWood plays at Elkhart Memorial in NLC games Wednesday night.
Tennis
The Warsaw girls tennis team dropped a 5-0 final to Carroll in non-conference play.
The closest match of the night came at No. 3 singles as Bailey Newman rallied to top Alyssa Zellers 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Sydney Jackson beat Liza Lewis 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 and Katelyn Van Wyngarden topped Ella Knight 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 to complete the singles sweep for Carroll.
The duo of Lauren Van Wyngfarden and Mia Toscos posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Colette Smith and Athena Schlitt at No. 1 doubles play. The team of Hannah Wallace and Katie Beier beat Rachel Yeager and Libby Jenkins 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Carroll won the junior varsity action by a 7-5 count. Winning in singles play for Warsaw were Amy Herendeen and Reagan Merchant. The JV Tigers also got wins from its doubles teams of Emma Hoff and Jennifer Straits, Charlotte Grandon and Kat Josellis and Mattie Ray and Izzy Ray.
Warsaw returns to lead play by hosting Elkhart Memorial Tuesday.
