WARSAW — After stopping a driver who failed to use his vehicle’s turn signal, the officer discovered methamphetamine, paraphernalia and syringes.
Marcus Deunte Brooks, 33, 2441 W. CR 250S, Warsaw, is being charged with possession of meth, a level 6 felony; possession of a syringe, a level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
Ashley Nicole Wolf, 20, 201 N. Franklin St., Mentone, is being charged with possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor and possession of meth, a level 6 felony.
On April 21, a Warsaw Police Officer was notified that a North Webster Police Officer was following a possible impaired driver in the area on CR 300N. The Warsaw Police Officer observed the green Chevrolet at North Detroit Street and Gilliam Drive.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the vehicle was drifting left and right in the lane of travel. The driver then failed to give a proper turn signal and the officer conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Brooks and the front seat passenger as Wolf. Brooks admitted that his driver’s license was suspended and Wolf did not have a valid driver’s license.
The officer removed the two from the vehicle and Wolf admitted to having a knife in her pocket. While removing the knife, the officer discovered a smoking device with burnt residue, two lighters, a pen tube and multiple small bags. Some of the bags contained methamphetamine.
At this time, the K9 partner was used to conduct an outer air search of the vehicle. The K9 gave a positive alert to the odor of drugs. The officer searched the vehicle and discovered a bag of methamphetamine in the driver’s door pocket. In the trunk, the officer found several hypodermic needles, one of which was filled with a reddish, brown liquid, and six plastic bags of methamphetamine.
Brooks admitted that everything in the trunk was his. He advised that he does not know anyone who uses hypodermic syringes for a medical condition. He also told the officer that he had used methamphetamine three days prior, on April 18.
Both Brooks and Wolf were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on April 21 $5,250 surety and cash bonds.
