Wawasee Sports Wrap: April 28
Baseball
Goshen scored four runs early then doubled that total to push past Wawasee 8-1 Friday in Northern Lakes Conference baseball in Goshen.
Tyler Colpitts and Philip Wetz each had two-run singles for the RedHawks, which scored two runs in the first on Colpitts single then plated two in the second inning before tagging four runs in the fifth, highlighted by Wetz’s hit.
Will Kushmider added an RBI single for Goshen, which moves to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the NLC.
Wawasee had Rylan Kuhn drive in the team’s only run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and added a single earlier in the contest. Wawasee was held to just three hits on the night.
Wawasee (5-8, 1-4) will finish the first round of the conference slate in hosting Concord Monday afternoon.
Unified Track
Wawasee competed at the East Noble Invite Friday afternoon, notching several personal bests in the process.
Camren Mangun jumped 6-7 for a personal best while Shawn Pinkerton, Lesley Tayagua and Noah Wilson all collected personal bests in shot put. Natalie Christian added another personal best in the 100 dash.
“We all had a great night,” stated Wawasee coach Swain. “Many athletes competed in events they never thought they could do. So proud of this team.”
Wawasee will next compete May 5 at Goshen.
