Florence R. Selner
Florence R. Selner, 93, Plymouth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2017 with her
family by her side at the Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home.
Florence was born on Sept. 12, 1923 in Syracuse, N.Y. to John Henry and Florence (Hardy) Ryan. On Aug. 6, 1945 Florence became the bride of Carl E. Selner in a ceremony in Washington, D.C. while both proudly were serving in the United States Army. Carl preceded her in passing on Dec. 16, 1998. Florence worked for Bomarko in Plymouth for six years. She was also activities director for ten years for a few nursing homes in Plymouth and Florida. Florence enjoyed playing bingo and the time she spent as a “Red Hat”. Florence attended Crossroads Evangelical Free Church in Plymouth when her health would allow.
Florence is survived by her daughters: Alice (Dennis) Tkachik of Illinois; Jule Salyer of North Judson; Kathleen (Dave) Lehiy of Plymouth; and Georgi (Richard) Humes of Culver; her son: John K. Selner of Florida; also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildre. Florence is preceded in passing by her husband, Carl E. Selner, daughters, Janis Gamble on May 12, 2002, and infant daughter, Sally Selner May 12, 1948; sisters, Julia Miller, Catherine Walters, Rita Lee, Anna Olekcsak, Rosella Walton, Mary Chauvin and Theresa Ryan; her brothers, Thomas Ryan and David Ryan.
The Van Gilder Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Selner family. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at in the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street Plymouth, Indiana 46563 with pastor Scott Yoder officiating. Private burial will be at a later date.
A time of visiting with the Selner family will also be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 6, in the Van Gilder Funeral Home.
The Selner family request memorial contributions are made to the donor’s choice.
