Odor Leads Officers To Discover 90 Grams Of Marijuana, 11 Firearms And Cocaine
WARSAW — After detecting a strong odor of marijuana coming from a specific residence, officers locate over 90 grams of marijuana, cocaine and 11 firearms.
Enrique Manuel Ramos, 41, 1824 Michaels St., Warsaw, is being charged with possession of cocaine while in possession of a firearm, a level 5 felony; obliterating identification marks on a firearm, a level 5 felony; dealing in marijuana in excess of 30 grams, a level 6 felony; maintaining a common nuisance, a level 6 felony; and possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.
On April 5, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a strong odor of marijuana coming from a residence on Michaels Street, Warsaw. The officer was greeted by Ramos and told him to gather everyone in the living room of the house to secure the home for further investigation. Ramos did not comply and locked the screen door.
A woman then came to the door and the officer told her the same thing. She also closed the door on the officer. The officer could see a small child walking through the house. Further officer assistance was requested.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed on May 1, additional officers arrived and helped secure the residence. Inside the home was Ramos, his wife, two teenagers and a small child. A search warrant was obtained for the residence.
In the master bedroom dresser, officers discovered smoking devices, marijuana paraphernalia, chunks of marijuana, digital scales, a revolver, two drug ledger books with information, 2.9 grams of hash oil and a cocaine one-hitter.
A locked safe was located inside the bedroom closet. Inside the safe, officers located 3 plastic bags of marijuana weighing 90.2 grams. The bags had markings on them commonly used for dealing drugs. Officers also found multiple smoking devices, metal grinders with marijuana residue, a water bong and three glass jars with marijuana residue.
In the garage trash bag officers found multiple plastic bags with marijuana residue and similar dealing markings. A blue bag that contained cocaine and a dollar bill with cocaine residue were also discovered.
Throughout the house, officers were able to locate 11 firearms including shotguns, rifles and handguns. One handgun had the serial numbers scratched off of it. An officer was able to obtain the serial numbers and discovered the gun had been reported stolen to the Mishawaka Police Department on March 10, 2011. The gun had been stolen during a home burglary.
Ramos was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on April 5 with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
