Purina Mill Addition Approved By BZA
WARSAW — Purina Mill was granted a variance by the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals hearing officer for a 12 x 24 feet addition during the regular monthly meeting Monday, May 8, in Warsaw.
Matt Sandy, assistant planning director for the county, noted the addition will be used for a dust collector and will be on the north side of the current facility off CR 1350N, west of SR 15 and north of Milford in Van Buren Township. The addition will also be 12 feet from the railroad property line.
Tuesday’s county BZA agenda items included:
• Andrew Bowes was granted a variance to allow a shed to remain 4.8 feet from the water’s edge and be altered to be 5 feet from the sideline on Stanley Street, south of First Street in North Webster.
• Jean Havens was granted a variance to allow a new property line to be created on EMS D15 Lane at Dewart Lake in Turkey Creek Township.
• Erin Combs was granted an exception for construction of an oversized accessory building in a residential district on CR 375S at the intersection with CR 400S in Wayne Township.
• Theresa Montgomery was granted a variance to allow a property line to be relocated to create two lots with less than 10,000 square feet in size on EMS B33A Lane in Tippecanoe Township. As a condition to approval, she can’t request any variances in the future.
• Donald and Sarah Kennedy were granted a variance to allow a second story deck to be replaced 3.5 feet from the side property line on EMS C22 Lane at Little Chapman Lake in Plain Township.
• Don Witmer was granted a variance to allow a building to remain as constructed 4.8 feet from a west property line on CR 1100N, east of CR 200E in Van Buren Township. Since the building was built in violation of the ordinance, a $2,000 settlement was approved.
• Scott Mast was granted an exception to allow an oversized accessory building on Fourth Street, east of Shaffer Street in Milford.
• Theodore Kramer was granted an exception to allow storage warehouses in a commercial district and also a variance to allow two uses on one tract of ground (storage warehouse and auto repair shop) on Fox Farm Road, north of Lake Street in Wayne Township.
• Will Sparkman was granted an exception to alter a previously granted exception by allowing auto sales/car auctions on property zoned industrial II and was also granted a variance to permit two uses on one tract of ground (auto sales and flea market). The property is located on SR 15, south of CR 350S in Wayne Township. Several conditions were attached, though, including slats must be placed in current chain link fencing to create a visual barrier, approval is only for a one-year period, there is no access off SR 15 and temporary signage must be used on days of events to help direct traffic to the property. Some neighbors complained people were turning around in their driveways because they drove past the site before realizing where they needed to go.
