Etna Green Council To Help Send Kids To Destination Imagination
ETNA GREEN — Patti Cook was present at Etna Green’s May council meeting, May 9, to ask the council to help send students to Destination Imagination Global Finals.
This year, 27 students from Kosciusko and Marshall county schools participated in DI, with 10 of those students earning a position to go to the global finals in Knoxville, Tenn. Nine are able to go, five of which are from the Etna Green area.
The DI program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that aims to foster students’ creativity, curiosity and courage through academic challenges. Challenges blend science, technology, engineering and mathematics education with the arts and social entrepreneurship. Students who participate not only learn patience and team building skills, but learn invaluable skills like flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process.
It costs $800 per student to send the kids to the finals. The event runs May 23-27 on the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, campus. Over 8000 students from over 15 countries participate.
Etna Green council was limited on available funds for promotions but approved a $250 donation to help send the students to finals.
