TRC Awards Banquet: Senior Student-Athletes Honored
WABASH — The Three Rivers Conference held its sixth annual awards banquet Wednesday at the Honeywell Center in Wabash.
Senior student-athletes were given awards in three different categories — Scholar Athlete, Distinguished Athlete and Mental Attitude Award.
Scholar Athlete award-winners must be ranked in the top five percent of their class with an SAT score of 1240 or more or an ACT score of 27 or more. Winners for Tippecanoe Valley were Victoria Biddle, Meredith Brouyette, Hunter Early, Amanda Heltzel, Jared Mikel and Anne Secrest. Morgan Keirn was Whitko’s lone winner in the category. Karly Eichenauer, Tahnee Fuentes and Hallie Sorg were all named for Manchester.
Winners in the Distinguished Athlete category were required to have participated in multiple sports throughout the year and needed to have made academic all-conference in five of six sports seasons over their junior and senior years. Mikel was named for Tippy Valley, and Kane Gable was named for Manchester.
Mental Attitude Award-winners needed to meet three criteria to be named. Firstly, they must have been nominated by a coach or principal. Secondly, they must have excelled in both leadership and scholarship, and thirdly, they needed to have presented a positive attitude towards teammates, coaches, opponents and officials. Abby Betten and Alec Craig were selected for this honor for Tippy Valley. Hanna Yohe and Gavin Howard were named for Whitko. Eichenauer and David McAtee were chosen for Manchester.
