P4C Seeking Volunteers For First 2017 Tippecanoe River Cleanup This Weekend
WARSAW – Paddlers for Conservation’s Watershed Stewardship Campaign, part of their ongoing stewardship initiative, continues to decrease the amount of litter, debris and hazardous materials in area rivers and lakes. This initiative will also continue to remove log jams from the Tippecanoe River which hinder the ability to freely float the river without obstruction and hinders the health of the river bottom and other riverine factors.
These efforts produce immediate and highly visible results and increases the public’s awareness of the effects of pollution through involving the community in direct action events that enable volunteers to make a positive difference through hands-on-stewardship. P4C’s methods are environmentally sensitive with their motto being “low impact, big results” and their projects provide environmental sustainability by reducing the risk to human health, river commerce, wildlife habitat and the very reputation of our area.
P4C’s Watershed Stewardship Campaign goals are met by holding at least 3 to 4 river cleanup events each year engaging as many community volunteers as possible in in their cleanups that educate and make an immediate difference of the health of our watershed.
In 2016 P4C successfully completed 5 cleanup efforts, removed 110 log jams, recruited 77 volunteers, worked at total of 40.5 hrs which equaled total man hours of 3,118 hours! P4C also removed 23 tires and over 34 large bags of trash and assorted metal objects as well as other debris.
Please sign up today by visiting P4C’s website at www.p4cpaddleclub.com, go to their volunteer page then to events where you will find all the details regarding the May 20 cleanup and the signup form too. Volunteers who want to help but don’t have a kayak or canoe, can just let P4C know that in the comments when they sign up and P4C will accommodate the request.
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to help the community and by the way lunch is provided. P4C hopes to see you on Saturday.
