Warsaw Homeowner Works To Save Home From Demolition
WARSAW — A Warsaw homeowner is making progress to save a residence from demolition.
During a City of Warsaw Department of Code Enforcement meeting held on May 15, hearing officer Lawrence Clifford revisited previously discussed issues with homeowner Fabiola Duran’s property at 519 N. Park Avenue, Warsaw. Duran was present at the hearing with her sister Noemi Saldivar.
A possible demolition of the residence had been discussed during the February code hearing meeting. Duran had purchased the house in October 2015, inheriting a list of code violations concerning the home’s foundation and dilapidated roof.
Duran had been given until May’s code hearing to complete work on the home.
Since the meeting in February, Duran has gotten estimates from contractors for work on the unoccupied home’s foundation.
No additional work has been completed on the home since the code hearing in February. Duran’s sister Saldivar explained they had been pursuing estimates from contractors to decide whether the home is worth salvaging.
Saldivar stated Duran plans to hire a contractor by the end of the month to fix the foundation. The work on the foundation is estimated to cost roughly $3,000 and take a week to complete.
Clifford noted the key issue with the house is the failing foundation.
“If it doesn’t get fixed properly then the whole thing literally as well as figuratively is going to fall through,” said Clifford.
Clifford stated work on the foundation is to be done by the next code hearing meeting on June 19. Additional work on other items previously addressed are to be completed by August.
Clifford mentioned demolition of the home is not out of the question if the work is not done properly.
A residence at 330 Ringneck Trail continues to be on the hearing docket. Attorney Fredric Lawrence spoke with Clifford about the property.
Lawrence explained the city had completed inspection earlier in the week and had stated some issues with the home needed to be addressed.
Failure to complete all the items on the original list of requirements from the city was mentioned during the meeting. Structural issues caused from removal of walls in the basement, lack of guardrails, missing and improperly hung light fixtures are to be fixed before the home goes off the code enforcement docket.
Clifford told Lawrence he has until the next code hearing meeting on June 19 to complete the work.
