Warsaw Sports Wrap: May 15
Softball
The Warsaw softball team could not get the offense going Monday night.
The Tigers managed just four hits in dropping a 9-1 decision at Concord in a Northern Lakes Conference contest.
Concord hurler Alexis Kern allowed just a first-inning run in shutting down the Warsaw bats. She finished with eight strikeouts and no walks in the win.
Concord scored three runs in the third inning to take the lead for good and added four more in the fifth frame in beating the Tigers for the second time this season.
The Minutemen outhit Warsaw 12-3 and played errorless defense. Warsaw committed three errors in the game.
Courtney Chookie led the Warsaw offense with a pair of hits. Saylor Bradley had a double and Izzy Dittmar a single for the Tigers. Chookie took the pitching loss, allowing five earned runs with one walk and one strikeout.
Audrey D’Arcy led the way for Concord with three hits. Skylar Decker had two hits and three RBI and Mayla Herman two hits and two RBI for Concord. Hannah Boswell also had three hits.
Warsaw drops to 9-11 overall and goes to 6-7 in league play. Concord improves to 14-13 overall and sits at 9-4 in conference action.
Warsaw hosts Elkhart Central Tuesday night and wraps up NLC play at home versus Elkhart Memorial Thursday evening.
Baseball
Jordan Jones had his stuff working for the Warsaw baseball team Monday night.
Jones fired a complete game shutout to pitch the Tigers past host Concord 5-0 for a Northern Lakes Conference win.
Warsaw scored a single run in the first inning and added a pair of scores in both the second and fourth frames to down the Minutemen.
Liam Patton led the offense for the winners with two hits. Second baseman Luke Baker had an outstanding defensive effort in the game for Warsaw.
The Tigers improve to 7-16 overall and go to 4-9 in league play. Concord falls to 5-17 overall and moves to 1-12 in the NLC.
The Warsaw junior varsity team edged Concord 4-3 to stay unbeaten in conference action. The trio of Jacob Lucas, Aric Krallman and Ian Glogovsky each had two hits to pace Warsaw. Mason Reber got the pitching win and Joe Wilkinson picked up the save. The Warsaw JV improves to 16-7 overall and sits 13-0 in the NLC.
Warsaw hosts Mishawaka Wednesday night and then returns to NLC action at Elkhart Memorial on Thursday evening.
