Whitko Sports Wrap: May 15
Softball
Ellie Snep and the Whitko defense shut out Peru, and the Lady Wildcats snapped a 0-0 stalemate with six runs over the fifth and sixth innings on the way to a 6-0 softball win at Peru Monday.
Snep struck out seven and surrendered just two walks in the win inside the circle.
Anna Ousley tripled on her way to two hits, Andrea Snavely doubled as part of a two-hit night, and Emmy Duggins also tallied two hits in the win. Kennedy Krull doubled, and Riley Insley and Reannon Hopkins recorded a hit apiece for Whitko.
The Wildcats return to action at North Miami on Wednesday.
Girls Tennis
Whitko upended Wawasee 3-2 to conclude the regular season for both clubs.
The potential sectional semi-final matchup had all three singles courts take wins for the South Whitley hosts. Delaney Keirn swept her match 6-0, 6-0 over Meg Heinisch while Morgan Keirn won 6-2, 6-4 against Peyton Rookstiil. Jackie Werstler collected a 7-5, 6-4 against Elizabeth Kleopfer to seal up the win.
Wawasee’s two courts came from Kabrea Rostochak and Kendra Doerr at one doubles, a 7-5, 6-3 win on the Hook sisters Gracie and Jessica. At two doubles, Taylor Mock and Courtney Larson collected a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jenna Vancuren and Manon Sonneville.
Whitko’s JV girls tennis team handed Wawasee a 4-2 loss on Monday.
Natalie Iholtz beat Kennedy Church, 8-3, at one singles, while Kayla Schipper beat Sailor Davis, 8-2, at three singles.
Mahkinsey Myers and Lilly Owsley earned a 9-7 win over Molly Jones and Brittny Jackson at one doubles, and Bailey Wright and Isabel Rayner were 8-6 winners over Anah Sommers and Julie Christensen at two doubles.
Whitko (10-3) will play Columbia City in the first round of the Warsaw Girls Tennis Sectional Wednesday afternoon. Wawasee (7-11) will meet the winner of the Whitko-City game on Thursday, opposite the Warsaw-Tippecanoe Valley matchup.
