Syracuse Post Office hosting passport fair
SYRACUSE — Summer is right around the corner and people are gearing up for fun. Many people will pack up their cars or hop on planes and travel to far off lands.
For anyone planning on traveling outside of the country, it is important to have a passport and be aware of current regulations. In addition to presenting a valid passport when flying, travelers will also need to present their passports at any land or sea entries when returning home.
The Syracuse Post Office wants to help ease the process of obtaining or renewing a passport.
There will be a passport fair on from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at 1010 N. Indiana Ave., 46567.
For individuals 16 and older, there will be a $135 fee. For those under 16, there will be a $105 fee.
The application must be paid by cash or check. There is a $15 fee for the on site passport photography services. This fee, as well as acceptance fees, can be paid by credit or debit cards or cash or checks.
The Postal Service recommends that those attending bring proof of citizenship as well as proof of identity.
All applicants, including minors, must appear in person. Those under 16 must have both parents present with them. If one parent is not available, they must give notarized authorization.
The sooner travelers apply for their passports, the better.
The U.S. Department of State reports that application process takes approximately six weeks.
The Postal Service advises applicants to begin this process as soon as possible.
For those in a hurry, there is an expedited option available that will take approximately three weeks.
