Warsaw Baseball: Cavemen Start Fast To Top Tigers
WARSAW – The Warsaw baseball team could not dig all of the way out of a big early hole Wednesday night.
Visting Mishawaka scored nine times in the first frame and held on to defeat the Tigers 12-9 in a non-conference game.
Warsaw plated five runs of its own in the second inning to cut the deficit to 9-5. The Cavemen added two more in the third and a single tally in the sixth. The Tigers scored once in the sixth and three times in their final at-bat in the seventh before falling short.
Jared Hawley had a big night at the plate to pace Warsaw. He went 4-5 and drove in a pair of runs for the Tigers.
The duo of Alex Miller and Matt Francis each had a pair of hits for Warsaw. Matt Shoemaker took the pitching loss.
Joe Howe had three hits and drove in three runs to pace Mishawaka. Sam Rajski homered for the Cavemen.
Each team had 12 hits in the contest. Warsaw drops to 7-17 overall on the season.
The Warsaw junior varsity team continued to roll with an 11-4 win.
Noah Burgh homered and drove in four runs to pace the JV squad. which improves to 17-7. Gage Lyon had two hits and two RBI and winning pitcher Drake Graham had three hits for the Tigers.
Warsaw plays at Elkhart Memorial Thursday night to wrap up conference play. The Tigers then host their own tournament Saturday before hosting Elkhart Central Monday night in the regular-season finale. Warsaw then faces Central again on May 25 in the Class 4-A Elkhart Memorial Sectional.
