Whitko Softball: Wildcats Move Into Sectional Final
CONVERSE – The Whitko softball team will get to play for the sectional hardware.
The No. 14 Wildcats earned a spot in the sectional finale after edging past No. 7 Manchester 3-2 Thursday night in a semifinal game of the Class 2-A Oak Hill Sectional.
Whitko will face host and No. 18 Oak Hill (20-7) in the title game Friday at 7 p.m. Oak Hill beat North Miami 9-3 in the other semifinal matchup Thursday night.
The Wildcats plated the game winning run in the top of the final inning for the win over their Three Rivers Conference foe. Andrea Snavely drove in the final tally with a groundout for the Whitko.
Manchester took a 1-0 lead in the home half of the first on an RBI triple by Kiera Stacy. The Wildcats tied it with a run in the third and took a 2-1 lead with a tally in the fifth frame. The Squires tied the contest at 2-2 with a run in the sixth inning.
Ellie Snep had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Wildcats. She also notched the pitching win, striking out four.
The trio of Snavely, Anna Ousley and Emmie Duggins each had a hit for the Wildcats. Snep, Ousley and Snavely each had an RBI for the winners.
Brooklyn Howard took the pitching loss for Manchester, despite allowing just five hits and striking out nine.
Emma West led the offense for the Squires, who outhit Whitko 7-5, with a pair of hits.
Whitko improves to 21-5, while Manchester closes out the season at 20-3.
