Triton To Offer Associate’s Degrees
Beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, Triton High School students will be able to earn an Associate’s degree while also attending high school.
The free classes will also count toward both high school requirements and college credits. The college credits are issued through Ivy Tech but can be transfered to any Indiana school.
Triton teachers are currently being credentialed based on their current subjects and any subject without a credentialed teacher will be taught by Ivy Tech faculty.
Triton High School currently has a graduation rate of 86.5 percent with only 67.5 percent of graduates pursuing a college education. Superintendent Donna Burroughs hopes this spurs interest in continuing education.
“Some students come from families that have never been to college and have never considered the option,” said Burroughs. “And with the cost of college today, who could turn down free classes?”
Students can take anywhere between three and 30 courses and will be able to sign up when course registration begins in February.
