Boilermakers To Play Pair Of Hoops Exhibition Games
WEST LAFAYETTE — The Purdue men’s basketball team, as part of its preparation for serving as Team USA in the World University Games, will play a pair of exhibitions in August at two high school gyms in Indiana.
Coach Matt Painter’s team will face Team Canada at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11 at Carmel High School. The two teams square off again at 4 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 12, at Lafayette Jeff High School. General admission tickets are $20 for the game at Carmel ($10 for ages 18 and under). At Jeff, general admission tickets are $20 for the lower level and $10 (adult) and $5 (youth) for the upper level.
Tickets are available online at PurdueSports.com or by calling 1-800-49-SPORT. Tickets will also be sold on the day of the games if any are still remaining. Proceeds from the two exhibition games will help fund Purdue’s trip to the Games.
Purdue becomes just the third collegiate team to represent the United States in the World University Games, which are set for Aug. 19-30 at Chinese Taipei. Purdue was announced as Team USA in late May, joining Kansas from 2015 and Northern Iowa in 2007 as the only college teams to be invited.
The World University Games are contested every two years and this year’s men’s basketball field consists of 24 countries. Overall, more than 150 countries and 13,000 athletes are expected to compete in 23 sports.
The Boilermakers leave for Taipei on Aug. 14 from Chicago. Competition begins with pool play (four groups of six teams) and each team is guaranteed eight games.
