Annual Heirloom Tomato Festival Coming To Pierceton
PIERCETON — The 10th annual Heirloom Tomato Festival is 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. this coming Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Old Train Depot and Brower Park in Pierceton.
Events of the day will include a kids tent in Brower Park, salsa contest, sandwich social, art show, green tomato pie contest, 5k run and guest speakers. Speakers will explain the importance of honeybees, growing and grafting fruit trees, beneficial weeds, fermented foods and growing one’s own food.
There will also be sidewalk sales at some of the shops during the festival. The American Legion will also be hosting a car display from 4-7 p.m.
The festival celebrates sustainable agricultural practices, eating locally grown produce and going green. In past years attendees have gotten to sample tomato jam, bread and soup. Approximately 100 varieties of tomatoes and vegetable are expected.
The event is sponsored by the Pierceton Chamber of Commerce.
