Mast, Schue Earn NCCAA Honors
WINONA LAKE – Grace College had a pair of athletes earn NCCAA honors this past week.
Women’s tennis player Emily Mast was chosen as the NCCAA National Player of the Week while women’s soccer goalkeeper Abby Schue was named National Defender Player of the Week by the NCCAA.
Mast continued her undefeated season by beating Goshen and Huntington in both singles and doubles last week.
Mast won in straight sets at No. 1 singles against both Goshen and Huntington. She also teamed up at No. 1 doubles with Carrie Copeland to win 8-0 against Goshen and 8-4 against Huntington.
Schue played an important role in Grace’s upset of No. 21 Kansas Wesleyan. The senior All-American goalkeeper made five much-needed saves to preserve a 1-0 victory for the Lady Lancers on Saturday.
Schue also kept No. 19 Embry-Riddle scoreless through 100 minutes of action on Monday, but ultimately a double-overtime penalty kick undid another upset bid for Grace in a 1-0 defeat.
The Lady Lancers tennis teams continues league play on Wednesday, traveling to Mt. Vernon Nazarene for a 1 p.m. match. The Lady Lancer soccer club are back in action Friday, playing at Missouri Baptist.
