Triton Rallies To Top Vikings
AKRON – A slow start didn’t stop the Triton girls basketball team from collecting another victory Wednesday night.
The Trojans rallied in a big way to edge past Tippecanoe Valley 58-54 in a non-conference contest at Valley.
Triton trailed 20-4 after the opening quarter and were down 27-20 at halftime. The Trojans sliced the deficit to 41-38 after three periods of play before outscoring the hosts 20-13 in the final stanza for the win.
Taylor Hatfield tossed in a game-high 21 points to pace the Trojans, who are ranked No. 10 in Class 1-A. Krystal Sellers netted 10 points, Kylie Mason nine and Breanna Lemler and Hannah Jennings six each for the winners.
Triton, which beat Valley 44-39 in overtime last season, improves to 6-2 with its third straight win.
Valley made one more field goal than Triton, 22-21, in the contest. The Trojans had a 6-2 edge though in 3-pointers made and hit 10-15 free throws to 8-14 for the Vikings.
Caylie Teel paced Valley with 15 points. Connor Frasure scored eight points, Cara Hoffman and Sara Alexander each had seven and Courtney Newsome added six for the Vikings.
Valley, which has lost four in a row, drops to 2-5.
Triton hosts Northern State Conference foe Bremen and Valley hosts Three Rivers Conference opponent North Miami in league games Friday night.
