TinCaps Baseball: Dragons Upset West Michigan, Next Up For Caps
COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. – Cassidy Brown scored on a passed ball in the top of the 11th inning to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 4-3 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps on Friday in the Midwest League playoffs. The Dragons now advance to meet Fort Wayne in the Eastern Division finals.
Brown scored after he led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt.
The Dragons scored one run in the ninth before West Michigan answered in the bottom of the inning when Daz Cameron and Cole Bauml scored on an error to tie the game 3-3.
Reliever Alex Webb (2-4) picked up the win after he struck out two and walked two over two scoreless innings. Spenser Watkins (9-4) went two innings, allowing one run and two hits while striking out one in the Midwest League playoff elimination game.
Michael Beltre tripled, doubled and singled in the win.
The Whitecaps squandered some scoring chances, leaving 14 runners on base in the loss. Danny Woodrow singled twice, also stealing a base for the Whitecaps, which finished by far the top team in the Midwest League (91-45) but lost the series to Dayton 2-1.
The Dragons (71-69) will meet Fort Wayne (68-72) in the Eastern Division finals, a three-game set that begins Saturday night in Fort Wayne. The start will begin at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne will start Adrian Morejon opposite Wennington Romero for Dayton. The two teams split its 14 games, seven apiece, during the regular season.
Game two and three will take place in Dayton, both 7 p.m. starts on Sunday and Monday, game three if necessary.
Cedar Rapids and Quad Cities are playing in the Western Division finals.

If Fort Wayne advances past Dayton, it would host game one of the Midwest League Championship Series on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 7:05 p.m. and game two on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 7:05 p.m. Games 3-5 would be played at the Western Division winner’s location.
