Valley Sports Wrap: Sept. 14
Boys Soccer
It took 39 minutes and 30 seconds for the Rochester Zebras to find the back of the net against a determined Tippecanoe Valley squad in an eventual 2-0 Three Rivers Conference defeat of the Vikings Thursday.
The Zebras went into halftime up 1-0 at Blacketor Field in Rochester. Recording eight saves in the first half alone, Valley senior keeper Fabian Mar sat on the bench most of the second half with an elbow injury and was relieved by junior back-up keeper Harrison Vining. The Zebras managed to capitalize on the change and scored a quick goal at the 49-minute mark against Vining, but that is all they could muster against the gritty Vining and later a returning Mar, who reentered in the second half.
Senior midfielders Xabier Armentia and Alyssa Brito were relentless in both their offensive and defensive roles, and the combination of senior defenders Alan Jimenez and Drew Hartman was the highlight of the match for Valley (1-8, 0-4 TRC).
