Boys Soccer
LCA picked up a big home win Saturday, thrashing Granger Christian 6-1.
Peppering the goal with 23 shots, 17 of those on target, LCA had Garrett McCoomb open the scoring with an unassisted tally, then help Parker Stewart with a goal. The two would later add goals while Luke Miller and Jeremy Gross also found the net. Josh Turner added an assist on Stewart’s second goal.
Granger Christian only managed four shots in the game, with Remington Swanson pulling in three saves for the win in net.
The Cougars improve to 5-7 overall with a tough matchup Tuesday against Manchester.
Girls Soccer
The Lady Cougars wrapped up its biggest win of the season in a 6-0 final over Peru.
Posting five goals in the first half, LCA was able to settle in for a 20-shot barrage on Peru’s net. Jess Slone opened the scoring in the second minute then Anna Reimink tucked in two goals, one from outside the 18 and another off a 25-yard free kick. Lauren Starrett punched one in then Avery Hobbs celebrated her first goal of the season with a strike four minutes from half.
It was a all around great effort by the whole team,” stated LCA head coach Nat Raber. “The subs came in to give the starters a rest and we didn’t miss a beat. The team is definitely improving as the season goes on which is great to see. The defense played great controlling balls and clearing them out only giving up three shots that were from distance.”
Nathaly Zapata rebounded a goal in near the end of the contest. Brady Gross corralled all three Peru attempts for her first shutout of the season.
“Very happy for Brady Gross who has been battling an elbow injury and she was great,” noted Raber. “Came out and took care of some balls to stop what could be scoring changes. I would say the stars of the game were the entire midfield as they dominated possession and made good smart passes all game.”
