Short Pursuit Ends In Two Arrests
WARSAW — On Tuesday evening, Sept. 26, the Warsaw Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Park Avenue. During the attempt to stop the suspect vehicle, the green Buick disregarded the stop sign, and took off at a high rate of speed eastbound on Market Street.
The vehicle continued to Argonne Road where he disregarded the stop sign and struck a northbound van. The driver, Miguel Castro, fled on foot. The vehicle then rolled into a parked vehicle in front of 202 Argonne Road with the female passenger still inside. The vehicle was secured and Castro and his female passenger were taken into custody. The female passenger, Haleigh Johnson, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Castro admitted to throwing narcotics/narcotic paraphernalia out the window of his vehicle. He also dropped a bag containing methamphetamine, marijuana and paraphernalia in the area he was taken into custody. Castro admitted to ingesting methamphetamine prior to being taken into custody. He was transported to the Kosciusko Community Hospital where he was admitted and has yet to be booked into jail.
Castro, Warsaw, age 24, is being charged with felony fleeing, possession of methamphetamine, resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving while suspended prior. He also was cited for multiple infractions during the course of the pursuit.
Johnson, Warsaw, 25, is being charged with possession of syringe for legend drug and possession of paraphernalia.
The driver of the northbound van that was struck was not injured. The Warsaw Police Department was assisted by the Winona Lake Police Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Warsaw Fire Department and Lutheran EMS.
