New 4-H Project Promotes Fire Safety, Education
KOSCIUSKO — The Kosciusko County 4-H Program is adding a new project that will give youth the opportunity to learn about fire safety, first aid and more from professional firefighters.
Youth in third grade or above will be able to attend workshops put on by local firefighters on topics ranging from designing fire escape routes, basic first aid, types of fire trucks and tools, CPR and more. Participants will then have the opportunity to make a poster or notebook, write a story or do a demonstration on what they learn at next year’s county fair.
The goals of this project include allowing youth to interact and network with local first responders and learn life skills such as concern for others, conflict resolution, service learning, critical thinking, decision making and teamwork. The project will also encourage youth to interact with others who have a similar interest, showcase what they have learned and explore potential volunteer, internship and career opportunities.
The Kosciusko County 4-H Program offers youth development through 70 different general 4-H projects including foods, sewing, plant science, soil and water science, creative writing and photography along with livestock projects that teach youth different types of life skills.
Registration for the 4-H program will be open until Jan. 15, online. The program fee is $20.
