Goshen Soccer: RedHawks Rally For Regional Title
MERRILLVILLE – Facing a 2-0 deficit, Goshen made a remarkable comeback to win the Merrillville Boys Soccer Regional Monday night.
Down 2-0 just over a dozen minutes into the first half against Crown Point, Goshen scored four unanswered goals to shock the Bulldogs, 4-2, to claim the regional title. The match was postponed from Saturday’s inclement weather in the Region.
Crown Point took the two-goal lead after winners from Enrique Barajas and Parker Darnstaedt.
Marcos Hernandez got Goshen on the board with a goal, cutting the lead in half heading into halftime. Manuel Castillo then knotted the match at two with a goal just four minutes into the second half.
Lucas Bontreger got the final two goals on assists from Hernandez, moving him into the all-time leading single season scorer in Goshen history, passing Isaac Huerta’s 26 goals in 2014.
Goshen (17-3) will advance to play Lafayette Harrison (18-1-2) in the Class 3-A Kokomo Semi-state this Saturday. The southern bracket pits Indianapolis North Central (19-2-1) against Castle (16-4-1).
