NLC Honors Volleyball, Soccer Stars
GOSHEN – The Northern Lakes Conference issued its award winners for boys soccer, girls soccer and volleyball.
Boys Soccer
Goshen was 6-1 overall in winning the NLC title, edging out upstart Plymouth’s 5-0-2 mark, the Pilgrims boasting of Coach of the Year Josh Martin.
The RedHawks had Lucas Bontrager, Flavio Cruz, Alex Martinez, Manuel Castillo, Marcos Hernandez and Junior Argueta all named All-NLC with Chris Garcia and Sergio Gonzalez as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Plymouth had Jorge Calix, Jesus Jimenez, Larry Dragani and Alex Baca all named All-NLC and Wyatt Howard and Colin Harding as Honorable Mention.
Warsaw (4-3) had its offensive stars recognized, with Blake Burns, Luis Cleto and Eric Ocock all named All-NLC while keeper Harrison Mevis was tabbed Honorable Mention All-NLC.
NorthWood (1-6) had Jaun Pantoja named All-NLC and Landon Parker as Honorable Mention All-NLC and Wawasee (0-7) fielded Chris Pena as All-NLC and Eric Yankosky as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Concord (4-1-2) had Matt Granitz, Chino Saleh, Landon Fisher and Josh Gorval as All-NLC and Nick Binkley and Ariel DeLaPaz as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Memorial (3-4) had Elmar Martinez and Brandon Vargas as All-NLC and Preston Elonich as Honorable Mention All-NLC and Northridge (2-3-2) had Micah Cross, Jonny Mora and Braden Tadeo as All-NLC and Anthony Jimenez as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Girls Soccer
Northridge and Warsaw once again battled on the league’s final day for the conference title, and for the second time in three years, a tie has settled it. Northridge’s 1-1 draw at Warsaw left the Lady Raiders 5-0-2 and winners of the NLC title. Warsaw wrapped up at 5-1-1, it’s lone loss to Concord.
Ridge landed Ariana Stoltzfus, Sage Schnell, Meghan Cawood, Kyla Long, Emma Oxenrider and Leah Stacker all on the All-NLC list and Sophie Carrison, Mikayla Smith and Izzy Love on the Honorable Mention All-NLC list.
Warsaw was also well represented, with Abby Steffensmeier, Dayle Harvey, Delaney Taylor, Anna Grill and Brenna Buhrt as All-NLC along with Brenna Shipley and Alex Koontz as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
NorthWood had one of its finest seasons in program history, and went 4-2-1 in the NLC. Mackenzie Bergman, Kira Robinson and Kali Parisi were named All-NLC, Savannah Feenstra was Honorable Mention All-NLC and skipper Phil Ummel was named NLC Coach of the Year for the first time.
Wawasee (0-7) had Olivia Birch as All-NLC and Sara Pritchard named Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Goshen (5-2) had Jill Kissinger, Aniya Hartzler and Hannah Kurtz as All-NLC and Maggie Gallagher and Alexa Medina as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Concord (3-3-1) had Hannah Schraw, Haley Miller and McKenna Defreese as All-NLC and Rachel DeShone as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Plymouth (2-4-1) had CeCe Robinson and Sydnee Smith named All-NLC and Madison Smith as Honorable Mention All-NLC. Elkhart Memorial (1-6) listed Veronica Ocampo as All-NLC and MaKenzie Swearengin as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Volleyball
Concord’s only loss of the conference season came on the final day against Warsaw, combined with NorthWood’s win at Wawasee left the Minutemen and Panthers both 6-1 and co-champs of the NLC. The two also shared another accolade as Concord’s Kelly Chupp and NorthWood’s Hilary Laidig were honored as co-Coaches of the Year.
NorthWood had Kennedy Wiens, Maddy Payne and Whitney Gessinger all named All-NLC and teammate Courtney Lengacher as Honorable Mention All-NLC. Concord had Ella Cunningham, Kenady Sullivan, Grace Kindy and Audrey Staggs named All-NLC and Keegan Thursby named Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Warsaw (5-2) had Kacy Bragg and Lexie Day named All-NLC and the duo of Hannah Leach and Erin Peugh named Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Plymouth (5-2) had Bailey Eveland and McKenzie Scheetz as All-NLC and Mercedes Bastardo as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Elkhart Memorial (3-4) had Brooke Taylor and DeJanae Johnson as All-NLC and Sydnie Schultheis as Honorable Mention All-NLC. Northridge (2-5) had Molly Brown land on the All-NLC list and Goshen (1-6) had Raina Shreiner-Barger as Honorable Mention All-NLC. Wawasee (0-7) did not have a representative.
