Carl William ‘Bill’ Miller II
Carl William “ Bill” Miller II was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 10:15 a.m., Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, after fighting a valiant battle with cancer.
Carl William Miller was born in Wabash on August 28, 1947. He was the treasured son of Carl. W. and Helen Marie DuBois Miller. Growing up, he shared his childhood with a sister, Sherry, and niece Debbie Clark. Bill graduated in 1966 from Rochester High School, then earned a degree in nursing home administration from Indiana University.
The original Miller’s Nursing Home on the 700 block of Madison Street was founded by Bill’s family in 1954. In 1966 his family built Canterbury Manor Nursing Home, a beautiful modern facility on the west edge of Rochester. After the unexpected death of his father, Bill oversaw the daily operations and built two additional wings, making it a 140-bed facility until 1988, when it was sold to Life Care Centers of America. He was owner of multiple businesses, but his most cherished experience was operating his family-owned nursing home in Fulton County and taking care of local seniors, whom he and his family had known all his life.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, attending church and working part-time after retirement. He worked locally, taking veterans to doctor appointments and driving for the Nappa Store. He was also a security guard at Notre Dame home football games. For pleasure, he enjoyed reading his Bible and the poetry of Helen Steiner Rice, fly and deep-sea fishing and playing the bass guitar. His favorite pleasures were spending time with his family, attending church and going on vacation travels.
Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his wife, Fran, at home; a son, Carl William ”Bill” Miller III and companion April; a daughter, Shannon Brock and fiancé Corey Maples; four grandchildren: Isaac, Ian and Isabella Miller and Ethan Brock; nieces, Debbie Clark and Susie Holse; and nephew, Todd Clark.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl, in 1965, his mother, Helen Marie, in 1998, and sister Sherry Holse in 2000.
Bill’s funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the Plymouth Church of Jesus Christ, 11181 Twelfth Road (across from REMC) Plymouth, IN 46563. Rev. Olan Howard will officiate. Friends may visit with his family from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester, and at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials honoring Bill’s memory may be made to the Fulton County Cancer Fund thru the NICF.
Good Family Funeral Home is taking care of the arrangements.
