Irish Jump To No. 5 In Latest Poll
SOUTH BEND – The Notre Dame football team just continues to rise in the national poll.
The Irish, after their sixth straight win Saturday, jumped to No. 5 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 on Sunday.
Notre Dame beat then ranked No. 14 North Carolina State 35-14 Saturday in South Bend to improve to 7-1. The Wolfpack, who dropped to 6-2, fell to No. 20 in the latest poll. The victory was the sixth in a row by more than 20 points for the Irish.
The lone loss for the Irish, who were ranked No. 9 last week, this fall was to undefeated Georgia 20-19 at home back in week two. The Bulldogs are 8-0 and now ranked No. 2 in the country.
Notre Dame is 3-1 against teams currently ranked in the top 25 with wins over USC, NC State and at Michigan State. The Spartans fell eight spots to No. 24 after losing in overtime on the road at Northwestern Saturday.
Alabama remains No. 1 in the new poll, followed by Georgia, Ohio State, Wisconsin and then Notre Dame. Clemson, Penn State, Oklahoma, Miami and TCU round out the top 10.
The College Football Playoff rankings will be released for the first time this Tuesday night.
Notre Dame has two games left against teams ranked in the top 25. They travel to Miami to face the undefeated and No. 9 Hurricanes on Nov. 11. The Irish wrap up the regular season on the road at No. 18 Stanford on Nov. 25.
The Irish, who also have a home game versus Navy on Nov. 18, host Wake Forest (5-3) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
