Warsaw Library Now Home To Cricut Machine
WARSAW — Warsaw Community Public Library is now home to a Cricut, and not the bug.
WCPL recently introduced its new Cricut Explore Air 2, designed to cut shapes for a variety of projects free to the user.
Located next to the library’s reference computers, the Cricut is a versatile machine capable of cutting shapes from paper, cardstock, washi sheets, iron-on, vinyl, wax paper and painters tape. Patrons wishing to use the Cricut simply bring their own material and inquire at the reference desk, located upstairs.
The Cricut connects wirelessly to a computer with Cricut Design Space software installed. Basic shapes can be used to create larger, more complex designs or shapes to fold into 3-D items like boxes and paper ornaments. Users bring their own materials to cut.
The library does not recommend homemade paper, construction paper or any other types of blended papers, as these may not cut properly.
The Cricut also has drawing capabilities and comes with a set of interchangeable pens of various colors.
The steps for creating a project are simple. Once a library staff member has unlocked the computer, the user opens the Cricut Design Space program, where there are countless options for making their own designs. They can also choose from several ready-to-make projects, which demonstrate the Cricut’s capabilities.
Those who would like to view the Cricut’s handiwork can stop by the library’s teen department and view the dragon poster, with letters cut out using the machine. Look for other examples of the Cricut’s work to show up around the library.
For more information on the Cricut Explore Air 2, contact the library’s reference desk at (574) 267-6011 or stop by to see the machine in action.
