WARSAW – The Beaman Home’s Sync UP! and DoVE Outreach program manager Brandie Rex and volunteer coordinator and sexual assault advocate Tabitha Gabbard were honored to have been invited to speak at two different colleges about sexual assault.
Gabbard recently educated an audience of more than 25 college students about sexual assault on Grace College’s Rape Culture Unmentionable Panel. The “Unmentionables” group aims to discuss topics that are considered difficult to talk about. Many topics were discussed, including statistics, number of cases that actually go to trial, convictions obtained and the #MeToo movement stemming from the Harvey Weinstein situation. Others on the panel were Aaron Crabtree, Lydia Gard and Thomas Throgmorton.
Brandie Rex shared on a panel along with Deputy Prosecutor Katie Hampton and Kosciusko County Sheriff Lieutenant Detective Todd Sautter, as they all advocated for the ideas originated by the “Start by Believing” movement. The program was organized by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society chapter at Ivy Tech Community College. The panel shared and answered questions from an audience of about 75 people at Ivy Tech.
Beaman Home is thankful for opportunities to educate the public in our community on the prevalence of sexual assault and what can be done to help change the narrative of blaming the victim. If you, or someone you know, has been a victim of sexual abuse, please call Beaman Home’s toll free hotline at (877) 725-9363 to speak to one of our sexual assault advocates.
