Castillo Receives Suspended Sentence After Stabbing Male
WARSAW — A Warsaw woman was sentenced today, Feb. 26, in Kosciusko County Circuit Court, after stabbing a male with a kitchen knife in July 2017.
Kristin Alexandra Castillo, 23, 705 East Market Street, Warsaw, was found guilty of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Castillo stabbed a male with a kitchen knife. She then washed the knife and the two went to McDonalds.
At 12:38 a.m. Saturday, July 29, officers with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a possible stabbing at McDonald’s. Upon arrival, officers observed a male subject sitting inside a truck with a blood soaked shirt. He had a stab wound on the left side of his chest and a slash wound on his right elbow. The male refused to tell officers who stabbed him.
As the male was being placed into an ambulance, he requested that Castillo get away from him. An officer determined that the victim did not want to be near Castillo because she was the one who stabbed him.
Castillo admitted to officers that she had stabbed the male. She advised that the two had been arguing at her residence all evening. At some point during the argument, she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the male. After stabbing the male, she washed the knife in the kitchen sink and placed the knife in a dish rack.
Castillo’s attorney, Scott Lennox, pointed out Castillo’s lack of criminal history. He informed the court that Castillo works and attends school. “She’s a good person – some emotions got in the way,” Lennox stated.
Judge Michael Reed sentenced Castillo to one and one half years in the Kosciusko County Jail. Reed ordered that the sentence be suspended and served on formal probation.
Castillo was given three days of jail time credit. She was ordered to pay court fines and costs, complete an anger management program and complete the Moral Reconation Therapy program through the Kosciusko County Probation Department.
Pursuant to the plea agreement, a charge of battery by means of a deadly weapon was dismissed.
